VET PFAS Act

On May 29, 2025, Congressman Mike Lawler and Congressman Josh Riley announced the VET PFAS Act. This bipartisan legislation aims to further the toxic exposure coverage of benefits to Veterans and their dependents (including in utero) who were exposed to perfluorooctanoic acid or other per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances.
The bill would cover hospital care and medical services to Veterans and their dependents who lived on a contaminated military base and were exposed to PFAS.
Additionally, the bill includes the following diseases and illnesses to be added as presumption of service connection:
- diagnosed high cholesterol
- ulcerative colitis
- thyroid cancer
- testicular cancer
- kidney cancer
- pregnancy-induced hypertension
“Our veterans have sacrificed so much in defense of our freedoms. We must honor that sacrifice with concrete action to support them once they’ve come home,” said Congressman Lawler, a member of the Bipartisan Congressional PFAS Task Force. “Too many of our brave veterans were stationed at military facilities where they were unknowingly exposed to toxic PFAS chemicals. The VET PFAS Act will deliver long-overdue care to those who have already given this nation so much.”
