WWII Veteran Gravestones Found in Nebraska

Gravestones for three Tennessee World War II Veterans were inexplicably found in an abandoned Omaha, Nebraska home in September.  It is currently unclear how the gravestones of the Knoxville, Tennessee Veterans ended up in Nebraska.  The three gravestones have since returned to Tennessee. The gravestones were recently presented to the families of the deceased Veterans by the Smoky Mountain VFW Volunteer Post 1733.

On the anniversary of Pearl Harbor this past Tuesday, the gravestones were placed on an American flag in a ceremony hosted in Knoxville, TN by the VFW.  They were honored at Knoxville’s Edgewood Cemetery, where all three men were laid to rest.  All three men died years after the war as civilians.

Eight other gravestones were found in the abandoned Omaha, Nebraska home.  Although it is unclear as to how the gravestones got into the house, investigators theorize that the stones may have come from a local Nebraska plant that manufactures the monuments.
