VSO Claims VA and DoD Insufficient Response to MST

In recent testimony to two House subcommittees, Denise Williams of the American Legion alleged that VA and DoD are not doing enough to address the rising incidents of military sexual trauma (MST).  According to Williams, the DoD reported 2,688 sexual assaults during 2007 and 2,908 in 2008.  VA statistics indicate that 90,000 Veterans screened positive for MST in 2008 (approximately 44,000 men and 48,000 women).  The American Legion expressed further concern that VA medical centers are not prepared to response to female Veterans who have suffered from MST.
