Collin College’s Frisco campus will be piloting a new program this spring term, by offering veterans-only classes. This is just part of a nationwide trend of making post-secondary education more friendly and available to veterans. The classes are there, easing the transition from military to class life, and are taught by volunteer professors, who either have a family member in the military, are veterans themselves, or have some other involvement with veterans. Veterans are being seen by colleges and universities as promising candidates, not only for their maturity, but also because as the recession deepens, the educational benefits provided through the Post-9/11 GI Bill sometimes make heading back to school easier than finding a job.
