Veterans Donate $13 Million to Intrepid Fallen Heroes and Fisher House

In 2006, a VA employee’s laptop was stolen; it contained personal information of approximately 20 million Veterans.  A class action lawsuit was filed, and a settlement of $20 million was reached between VA and the Veteran class.  The fund is initially being used to reimburse Veterans for their out-of-pocket expenses paid as a result of the stolen information (in amounts from $75 to $1500), lawyers’ fees, costs, and expenses.  The Veterans are donating the remainder of the settlement fund to Fisher House Foundation, Inc. and The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund (IFHF).  Fisher Houses are located next to VA hospitals across the country to provide the families of wounded service members with a place to stay.  IFHF raises money for the families of service members killed in combat, and the organization is working to open a traumatic brain injury hospital in Bethesda, MD.
