According to a recent Military Times article, VA officials are now imposing a new grading system on their 112 in-patient treatment facilities that will evaluate their abilities to do complex, intermediate or standard procedures. Grading for the medical facilities takes into consideration their medical staffing with respect to operating rooms and available surgical consultants, as well as equipment and diagnostic capabilities. Medical centers will not be permitted to perform procedures deemed to be beyond their capabilities. According to article, VA Medical facilities which will be immediately affected are the medical centers in Alexandria, LA; Beckley, WV; Fayetteville, NC; and Illiana, IL; and Spokane, WA.
