VA study Finds Lack of Cognitive Assessment During Hospitalization

The VA Office of Inspector General recently released a report of an evaluation of elderly patients hospitalized in VA acute care hospitals.  The report contains some troubling findings, such as that “less than 40 percent of patients had evidence of any cognitive assessment during their hospitalization or in the six months prior to admission.”  However, the study found that functional status assessments were completed for almost all patients.
