In the US each year, June 27 is recognized as National HIV Testing Day, to educate and remind citizens of the benefits of early detection of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. This year, the Department of Veterans Affairs is extending the day to a week – designating June 27 to July 3 as VA HIV Testing Week. VA health care facilities around the country will promote HIV awareness, education, and testing this week.
VA has more information – including who should be tested, why you should be tested, and what the test is – at www.hiv.va.gov. Notably, VA states on their website that your HIV test result will not affect your VA care or eligibility for benefits.
