Closures Impacts VA Claim Appeal Processing.
Earlier today, the U.S. Federal Government began closing what the government calls “non-essential” services. Veterans and workers at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) are now learning the details about impact on healthcare and benefits.
For the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) there appears to be little impact as healthcare continues at the agency’s hospitals and clinics. Medical appointments will continue normally.
According to an official VA memo released to the public on the evening of September 30, 2013, however, there appears to be significant impact on the and the Board of Veterans’ Appeals where “All work on appeals will be halted during the shutdown,” according to an update prepared by Tom Tarantino, the Chief Policy Officer at the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.
