The Struggle of Female Veterans Returning from Combat


While over 230,000 women have fought in the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, these women are finding it hard to return home and struggle to find acceptance from the general public and even those men they fought with overseas.  While women are barred from missions and duties where they would engage in “direct ground conflict”, many women nonetheless see combat in their roles are drivers, pilots and military police officers.  It is also sometimes harder for these women to receive care for certain physical injuries and mental health problems, including problems due to sexual assault.
