The Veterans’ Entrepreneurial Transition Business Benefits Act is currently being considered by the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee’s economic opportunity panel. The bill contains a precedent-setting idea of allowing education benefits to be used for something other than training and education. The bill would allow eligible Veterans to use education benefits to own and operate their own businesses. The bill would only apply to Montgomery GI Bill Benefits. Veterans groups have differing views on the merit of the proposed bill, which has been pending before the panel since January 2009.
