What is the VFW?
VFW stands for Veterans of Foreign Wars. This organization recognizes Veterans that were in foreign wars, expeditions, or campaigns.
The VFW was created in 1913, merging three war Veteran organizations in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Colorado into one. But, the VFW recognizes September 29, 1899, as the founding date. On this date, a group of Spanish-American War Veterans came together to share their experiences and support one another.
How to get involved
The VFW now has 1.5 million members and 6,000 posts across 50 states of the United States. The requirements to become a member are to be a US citizen or national, former or current member of the armed forces, and must have served in a war, campaign, or expedition on foreign soil, airspace, or hostile waters.

The second opportunity is the VFW’s Student Veteran Support Grant offers much-needed support to specific student Veteran events.
Mental Wellness: The VFW is committed to helping change the narrative and stigma surrounding mental health in America. To raise awareness about these invisible injuries and emotional stress, the VFW has teamed up with many national organizations to do its part.
