For Rhode Island Veterans suffering from PTSD, there will be a free “Yoga for Vets” program hosted at the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane on January 15th from 11:15 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. Those interested in attending should email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a spot.
The Yoga for Vets program was started by Chris Belanger, who has developed the program in an effort to help Veterans mitigate the symptoms of PTSD using the relaxation techniques of yoga. Belanger is from Warwick, RI, and has endorsed yoga for its ability to calm the mind and promote fitness through simple exercise and breathing techniques. For all Veterans wary of participating due to a lack of flexibility, Belanger has said that no flexibility is needed to begin yoga, since the practice of yoga will automatically and gently work to promote increased flexion. Belanger operates Yoga for Vets under the auspices of the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training, and has offered classes through the Yellow Ribbon program.
