Retired Maine Veteran Helps People Reclaim Lost Assets

A 70-year old retired Veteran in West Gardiner, ME has a very unusual hobby. He spends 20 hours a week scrolling through the Maine’s Treasurer’s Office website looking for unclaimed properties. He has found thousands of dollars of unclaimed assets, and then tracked down the owners, a hobby that has brought thousands of dollars to people. Recently he found 13 items that belonged to the Maine chapter of United Way, worth between $25 and $100. The 18-year Navy Veteran does it all for free, because he likes helping people out, and has refused donations from the people that he helps. The director of operations of Maine’s Treasurer’s Office said that they had almost 800,000 properties of accounts on their books worth a total of $159 million. This is just another example of the continued service that Veterans show to their fellow citizens each and every day.
