New Jersey Honors Veterans

This past Tuesday, about 50 Veterans in Northern New Jersey gathered for a ceremony to receive state medals in order to commemorate their service. Most received the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal, the state’s highest award.  The event was organized by the New Jersey Department of Military and Veteran’s Affairs in order to recognize the service of New Jersey Veterans and to also inform them of the benefits that they are entitled to as a result of their military service.  The New Jersey Military and Veterans Affairs Department holds such awards ceremonies in public gathering places in order to reach out to the Veterans who may not be aware of the services available to them.  Any veteran who lives in New Jersey, was a state resident at the time of his or her service, and was honorably discharged is eligible for the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal.
