Marines Learn from Vietnam

Marines in Afghanistan are finding valuable lessons in the experience of 15 Marines who lived in a Vietnamese village for two years.  “The Village,” by Bing West, first published in 1972, recounts the experiences of 15 Marines who spent two years in the remote Vietnamese village of Binh Nghia, protecting villagers and joining with local security forces to combat a violent insurgency.  The Marine Corps believes the lessons of their experience can help Marines conduct successful counterinsurgency in Afghanistan.
