Legislation to Approve Email for Claims Notifications in the Works

A House of Representatives subcommittee approved a bill that would permit VA to email notifications about disability claims to Veterans, rather than using traditional mail. The bill, called the Modernizing Notice to Claimants Act, does not require Veterans to receive notifications by email, but gives them the option. Thus far, the bill does not contain the actual procedure for opting in or out of email notifications, and still has a ways to go before it is signed into law. Many people view this bill as a positive step towards increasing the speed and efficiency of the VA disability claims process.
