Homelessness Among Veterans

Homelessness among veterans has dropped 18 percent as of the end of last year.  In 2008, VA’s Community Homeless Assessment Local Education and Networking Groups estimated that 131,000 veterans were homeless, while that number was found to be approximately 107,000 in 2009.  This decreased rate is in part attributed to VA’s five-year initiative to eliminate homelessness among veterans by creating specialized programs and opening more facilities to assist veterans.
