Tragically, it is estimated that more than 131,000 Veterans and their families are without homes. Several recent initiatives are being undertaken to combat this problem. The VA has established a new hotline for homeless Veterans at 1-877-4AID VET to provide assistance and coordinated access to VA and community services. Responders will staff the hotline 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development recently announced that it will provide 58.6 million dollars to help meet the housing needs of homeless Veterans. Vouchers will be provided to displaced Vterans and their families through the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program, a joint endeavor between HUD and the VA.
